A new 40,000 square-foot air cargo facility developed by AFCO at Jackson International Airport began operations during the week of November 21, 2004. In May 2004 AFCO was selected by the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) Board to develop Phase 1 of the Mississippi Air Cargo Logistics Center. A 40-year ground lease was executed by AFCO for the financing, development, construction and management of the new facility.
Initial tenants include the United Parcel Service, BAX Global, Delta Airlines, Integrated Airline Services, Menlo Worldwide, Page & Jones, the U.S. Customs Service, and the U.S. Postal Service. Should there be a need for on-airport space, AFCO will have an additional 8,000 square feet of warehouse and approximately 900 square feet of full-service office space available in the new facility.
Team members include Fountain Construction, general contractor; Dean & Dean Architects, project architect; Waggoner Engineering, civil engineer; Andy Covington Engineering, electrical engineer; Scott C. Woods & Associates, mechanical engineer; Burns Cooley Dennis, geo-technical consultant; and Advance Environmental Consultants, environmental consultant. All companies are based in Jackson, Mississippi.
The exterior appearance of the building is designed to blend with other airport facilities. AFCO used the white/green color combination metal panels with a green standing seam roof.
The facility is located on Highway 475 adjacent to JMAA’s newly completed 450,000 square-foot aircraft apron. Future developments of “build-to-suit” facilities up to 200,000 square feet are also available upon request.
