AFCO has completed development and construction of a 315,000 square-foot new air cargo aircraft apron and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) storage area expansion at Washington Dulles International Airport's Cargo Building No. 5. Federal Express is leasing over 86,000 square feet of GSE storage area, and 144,000 additional square feet of apron and maneuvering area. United Airlines is leasing approximately 26,000 additional square feet of GSE storage area. The total apron at the facility can accommodate 10 wide-body aircraft or 15 narrow-body aircraft.
This expansion is the third phase of development at the Dulles World Cargo Center. $3,000,000 in industrial development revenue bonds were issued by the Industrial Development Authority of Loudoun County, Virginia for the owning Partnership for constructing the apron and GSE storage area expansion and associated access roadway and vehicle parking. WEST*GROUP, Inc., of McLean, Virginia was the Construction Manager; Moffatt, Nichol & Bonney, Inc. of Portland, Oregon, who designed the original Cargo Building No. 5 facility provided the architectural/ engineering services; Lane Construction Corporation of Meriden, Connecticut was the General Contractor.
